2021 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1

RLFG KICKS OFFSEASON IN STYLE

The 2021 season of the Rugby League Federation Ghana has started in earnest with high-intensity games played over the weekend at the Legon Rugby field in Accra.

The junior teams, Firm Foundation Rugby Academy and Africa Warriors Rugby Academy locked horns in a firecracker match to set the tone for the league which promises to be fun-packed. Firm foundation overpowered their counterparts with 14 points at the end of the game.

BULLS VS ACCRA PANTHERS

The men’s game started with the Bulls jostling it out against the Accra Panthers in the early kick-off game. The first half of the game was all for the Bulls as they were tactically superior and gained spaces in the defence of their opponents to make some good runs resulting in tries and points for their team.

The Panthers needed the first half break to get their rhythm together as they turned around the fortune of the game in the second half. The Bulls failed to replicate their first-half performance, allowing their opponents back into the game. The Panthers pull some tactical and technical stunts in the second half to win the game. Jubilant Board Member of Accra Panthers Jafaru said that his team needed the first half to read the game and he was sure that his boys were going to win the game.

“My boys were not getting their flow in the first half. I read the game and gave a brief talk during the break. I was certain of winning”, coach Jafaru said. Meanwhile, the captain of the losing side, Collins Ofosu expressed disappointments in the outcome of the game and blamed it on complacency. The captain said, “we are not happy with the outcome of the game, our players went to relax after the first half”.

GHANA SKOLARS VS NUNGUA TIGERS

Ghana Skolars RLC stamped their authority in the competition with a huge win over the Nungua Tigers in the second game of the day.

The Tigers never looked scary from the onset of the game because they failed to roar.

Ghana Skolars showed superiority making 5 tries and 3 conversion kicks.

Chris Da- Gama of Ghana Skolars was the darling boy of the day, making a hat trick of tries for his team.

He observed that “it was a good game from our team and we are prepared to win the league this year.”

Meanwhile, the spectators, who turned out in their numbers to watch the games, we're excited to see the Rugby League resume after the long break due to the pandemic.

The tournament continues on Sunday, 30th May 2021 at the same venue.
